The limit between Culture and Technology

ITC pioneered the creation of multimedia interactive CD-ROMs in Romania. For example, using its own software tools along with tailoring and localising other software, ITC installed the first informatics kiosk inside the National Museum of Arts, Bucharest. As its experience in the field grew, ITC approached complex projects providing not only software instruments but also creating electronic content. At the frontier between technology and culture, ITC acted as a recognized operator in the IT field but also in the field of cultural electronic content creation.
The many awards ITC received from the Ministry of Culture of Romania, the Research Agency ANCS, and from international jurors speak for themselves.
Here are some products which can be considered as real landmarks in the field:
  • The Wallachian Garden, Rom/English CD-ROM. Drawing on the academic expertise of the academician Răzvan Theodorescu, the exceptional religious art heritage present inside the Monasteries and churches from the Vâlcea and Oltenia counties are presented in this exceptional CD-ROM.
  • Brancusi CD-ROM, Rom/English. This is a unique multimedia document containing exceptional testimonies about the life and work of the great sculptor Constantin Brâncuşi. It has been used by the Ministry of Culture from Romania as an instrument for cultural publicity, and an additional argument for European integration of Romania in EC. The CD/ROM has been considered by the curator Michael Taylor from the Philadelphia Museum as a “valuable addition to the existing works referring to the great sculptor” and has been retained by the Kandinsky Library in the Pompidou Museum to be presented to the public.
All these projects have brought prestige and appreciation to our cultural institutions. In addition, ITC has been selected by the Bishop of Vad, Feleac and Cluj as the developer of the CD-ROM Project Bible, which was edited by Bartolomeu Anania.
The same solid arguments about ITC's considerable expertise have contributed to its been successfully selected by the research Agency ANCSIT for projects aimed at the digitizing of the national cultural heritage. Therefore, a digital archive has been created at the National Village Museum Dimitrie Gusti in Bucharest where a Touch Screen Terminal has been established. In addition, an image database containing the UNESCO monuments from Romania has been made web accessible. The exceptional heritage present in the National Museum of Art in Bucharest has also benefited from this program, and both a database and a web site have been opened to the public, making accessible for the first time the virtual image of this museum.
As a result of its honourable cultural involvement, ITC has been taken on as a partner in an international project entitled SCIENAR where its combined experience in both IT and Communication and in the art and heritage field is being galvanised in order to emphasize the science and art interface.
Our world of today is characterized by the abundance of cultural products fed by more and increasingly available new IT and Communication technologies.
ITC tries to be at the forefront in this field too. We have been selected for years through fair and open competitions as exemplifying the best practice in producing Romanian e-content.
We have promoted quality in e-content under the umbrella of the World Summit Award Competition as we are convinced that we are the best in this sector. Our mission is not to accept compromises in developing e-content and consequently, this mission statement underpins all our activities and ongoing projects.
